What could be improved
Patients need to be treated with care and dignity. They are at their most vulnerable whilst in the care of healthcare professionals and need to be kept informed of their care plan. Patients have little choice especially when accessing maternity care and need to be treated with respect.
The lack of communication between patients and staff and staff and each other was pitiful and led to patients being left confused as to what was happening in terms of their treatment. Patients have a right to know what they are being treated for and how the anticipated delivery of treatment is to be conducted. To leave patients "in the dark" for days is not acceptable.
There was a general lack of management in the service which was obviously to all.
The ward was dirty, the catering staff were rude - an example of this is that heavily pregnant women; women in labour and women who were on IV were left to walk to the end of a ward if they wanted lunch or dinner as the orderly who was responsible for giving out the food found the trolley "too heavy ... to push". Absolutely disgraceful.
The nursing staff feel it is acceptable to argue with visitors in front of patients and tell them if they do not like the way they are being spoken to they can report them "to their God".
Patients are left for 2 days without a care plan and when a MSU is finally taken and glucose found to be in the urine there is no staff who are able to carry out a blood test because the new equipment that has been introduced to carry out Glucose monitoring has not been properly demonstrated/set up.
The care is shambolic, poorly managed and in no way offers patients dignity or respect.
