"Have you paid for treatment abroad?"

(as other),

If so, we would be please to hear from you and to listen to your story.

The National Institute for Health Research is funding a team of researchers to explore the implications for the NHS of inward and outward 'medical tourism', where patients pay out of pocket and travel overseas for treatments. This may include fertility treatment, check-ups, cosmetic, dental and elective surgery.

Further information about the project aims and the research team is available at the following web address: http://www.medicaltourismresearch.co.uk

So far, little is known about how and why people make the decision to travel overseas for treatment, what the financial implications are for the people travelling overseas and the NHS, and how the medical tourism industry is developing. We plan to discuss these matters with people who work within the NHS, represent professional bodies, members of the medical tourism industry, and have experienced treatment overseas.

If you have any questions or wnat to know more about the project, please contact myself, Dr Neil Lunt (neil.lunt@york.ac.uk ).
