What I liked
All the staff who I came into contact with during my stay on the ward were in my opinion friendly but clearly very busy. I felt I was informed of everything going on. After having had my previous c-section at Rochdale Infirmary I was anxious about having my second child at a different hospital and was obviously going to compare my experiences. Although there were differences in the way things are done I have been happy with my stay on the ward. The staff were friendly and approachable but very obviously over worked. My son was a little poorly when he was born but I cannot fault the doctors and nurses involved in his care in particular the paediatric doctors who kept me informed of everything they were doing and explaining why they were doing things.
In general the room on the maternity ward where I stayed was clean but a little cramped possibly for 4 people. It is a shame that Rochdale maternity services have been closed and it will get busier when Fairfield shuts its maternity services as well. The service is busy enough now and it will only get busier which will be a great stretch on the staff and may lower morale.
However overall I was happy with my stay and if I have another child in the future it would be interesting to see if I would still have the same opinion due to all the changes and closure of services.
What could be improved
The room could have been a little more generous in terms of space as there were 4 people and when it came time for visiting it was a bit cramped to say the least.
It would have been easier if the visitor toilets were in the same place instead of being on a different floor and having to buzz back on to the ward every time you went off the ward to go to the toilet.
Anything else?
Parking is an absolute nightmare and this could be better but of course there is building work going on which doesn't help but still the parking is horrendous.
"Satisfied with staff and stay but not..."
