"A totally miserable and expensive..."

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

What I liked

Once I was seen by the surgeons I was impressed. My options were clearly explanied pros and cons discussed and the procedure took place swiftly and efficiently. Nothing like my experince in A&E

What could be improved

I was refered by my doctor to have an abcess drained and dressed. She advised me not to eat in case I needed a general anaesthetic. I arrived about 3pm, and overfeard there was a 3-4 hour wait. Although I was seen by triage quickly I was advised I was to be seen by a surgeon and she had contacted someone to sort out a bed. During the course of the next 4 hours I watched the dept empty and fill several times. At 8pm after having been there 5hours I asked the booking staff if they had any idea how long it woiuld be before I was seen. I was told to ask a nurse. I did and the respnse was we are very busy. I told him I`d been there for 5 hours, I hadn`t eaten since 9.30 that morning and was just looking for some idea of how long it would be before I was seen. He repeated they were busy his attitude suggesting he wanted to say go away and stop bothering me. At 8.40 I finally had enough and asked another nurse. She had just come on duty and didn`t know. I repeated the deatils of the situation and shegrudgingly agreed to see what was going on. Within no more than 5 mins my name was being called. That things happened so quickly after I complained is indicative of one thing only I had I had been forgotten about. No one checked on me nor gave me any indication of what was going on. I spent almost 6 hours in A&E effectively for nothing. To compund the offence when I got to the car park I was charged £15 for the privillage.
