What could be improved

I had been referred to a number of specialist consultants via my local GP. I visited the vascular clinic at Beverley and was referred for an ultra sound scan on my legs. In between times I had been referred to the diabetic clinic. I was seen by the diabetic consultant and he signed me off. he had my file in front of him and he stated that the results of the ultra sound were present and it was clear that I needed an angiogram.

I informed the receptionist that I had been signed off and would not need another appointment. This was sometime in the middle of May and was the last time I knew where my file was.

I returned home and waited for the vascular clinic to get in touch reference the results of the ultra sound. After 2 weeks I went to my GP's to see if they had heard anything. They had not and the Secretary chased it up and said to wait 2 weeks and see what happened. I was convinced that my file had been filed and forgotten.

Two weeks went by and I re-contacted my GP and the Secretary passed me the phone number of the vascular consultants secretary. I rang and explained the situation and was told that it may take a week to retrieve my file and for the consultant to view the results etc..

Eight days later I rang again to be informed that my file was on the secretarys desk but the consultant was on holiday until the end of June! The secretary was helpful in stating that she would get another consultant to view my file and possibly get me into the clinic.

I have been in pain and discomfort since my first visit to my GP which was mid February, two of the GP's not even bothering to look closely at my foot which was red and very swollen before referring me to various consultants.

I am very displeased with the way in which my case has been and is being handled

I would like to add that the consultants I did see acted in a very professional manner

the mis-filing of my notes has caused a good deal of unecessary discomfort and worry to myself and my family
