"I was treated well, as a human being,..."

About: St Albans City Hospital

What I liked

The surgeon and anaethesiatist both came to see me before my operation, gave me a detailed explanation and answered my questions. All the staff from Day Surgery receptionist, to nurses and sisters were all very friendly and keen to see I was comfortable and had a good outcome. The tea and toast was very welcome and nothing seemed too much trouble.

I felt I was being treated as a human being and not a statistic. The aftercare info pack was good.

What could be improved

Although the aftercare info was good, I feel a bit more about how I should manage my immediate aftercare with a timeline/schedule. In particular, a sequence of possible events. For example, Op + 2 days - remove sling, start exercises daily, do I take anti-inflammatories?, do I need to go to my GP a week after the op to get the dressing changed, after two weeks to get the stitches out.

Who do I call if I haven't got a physio appointment by the end of week 1?

I feel strongly about a schedule the majority of patients can follow, with contact numbers and possible events that could happen.
