"thombophlebitis in varicose veins"

About: Sefton PCT

(as the patient),

I am suffering with above which is very painful. the area affected runs the length of a varicosed trunk vein along the inside of my left leg. The Gp when contacted ( X3 appts) read out to me a web page about self help from patient uk and prescibed some nurofen. The fact that the phlebitis in the vein had reached my groin wasnt considered significant and told me that "NICE"guidelines recommended no treatments for vvs. I was very concerned about the progress of the phlebitis and was in the position to be able to see a vascular surgeon privately. I was told that there was a 25% chance of a DVT developing because of the position of the thrombophlebitis. The consultant arranged a scan and the scan revealed that there is 0.5 cm between the thrombosed vein and the deep vein in my groin! This is not patient centred care and i am concerned for those who would not be able to pay for a private consultation
