"Frustrating and Stressfull"

About: East Surrey Hospital

What I liked

My 12 year old son was admitted via A/E following a fall and head injury. I could not fault the A/E deptment and he all the scans and tests really quickly. As there was no bleeding they sent us home the next day. He had also lost all this memory for events prior to the accicent and was dizzy. A week later I brought him back becasue he was getting more dizzy. Again I was told that I should not worry. I asked that I could have some help with his memory loss at I really felt helpless. I was told that the consultant would discuss him with the neuro unit at St georges and make a follow up for him. Two weeks later despite phones messages from myself and my gp we had heard nothing so my GP sent us back to the child assessment unit where we had to start again, where they admitted that my son had got lost in the system. and while we have now got the referal done we are still waiting to be seen and I feel that that loss of 2 weeks might have an effect on my sons eventaul outcome as he still has no memory

As yet we still have no idea of what is going to happen for my son and what sort of recovery will be made as noone has bothered to really sit down and discuss it with us.

What could be improved

That the consultant had done the referal when he said he would - better recording methods so a child does not get lost in the system.
