Staff care

Anything else?

I’m disgusted at the treatment of my elderly father at Good Hope. They failed to notice in A&E that he broken several ribs until he was scanned for another condition, after he had been admitted. On the ward the staff appeared very uncaring and senior nursing staff were never available at visiting times to keep his family informed and answer any questions. Dad developed diarrhoea which he found very embarrassing and disturbing but the nursing staff only made him feel worse by suggestion that he was making a mess on purpose, they failed to clean him properly and left in red raw for days, despite our request for cream to be applied. Fortunately dad was transferred to another hospital and within the hour was made comfortable and treated like a human rather than a thing that had no feelings or views. My dad hasn’t got Alzheimer’s or dementia I dread to think how he would have been treated if he had.

We are so sorry to read the recount of your father's time in A&E and on a Ward at Good Hope. This clearly falls well below the high standards we expect for all our patients and is also something we would like to throroughly investigate on your behalf. Please can we encourage you to contact our Customer Relations team on 0121 424 121 or our Good Hope Hospital Director, Amanda Marnock on 0121 424 0338 so that we may obtain the necessary details. Any correspondance with you will of course be treated in the strictest confidence.
