What I liked

The nursing staff were excellent. In particular the sister of A&E. She was lovely to my parents.

The biggest concern I have is about the medical treatment my dad recieved. He was sent to a&e by his GP because he was in severe pain, he had lost 1 stone in 5 weeks and had not eaten for 4 days and was only managing to tolerate sips of water. I felt the doctor did not listen to what we were telling him about my dads condition. His conclusion was to send my dad home on the painkillers we had already told him wern't working. And he told my dad to 'drink more' water. I am a nurse and my dad was very dehydrated. We told the doctor he wasn't able to drink but he wasn't bothered. Just seemed happy to get us out of a&e as quick as possible. As a result my dad collapsed a few hours later and was rushed to a&e at The Queen Elizableth hospital where he was admitted and given 4 litres of fluid to rehydrate him. I would not have sent a dog home to suffer like my dad did. It is really not a good standard of care when an elderly man can be sent home dehydrated and told to drink more and basically put up with the pain. The care we got at the Queen Elizabeth was outstanding in comparison.
