Waste re drugs brought back to the pharmacy. I have worked in a pharmacy and experienced this.

Response from Helen Wyatt, Manager, Patient and Public Involvement , Quality Assurance Team, Rotherham Clinical Commissioning Group We are preparing to make a change

This comment was posted from our Stakeholder event in June. We are asking for help in identifying waste and inefficiencies within health services, as we want to make provide the best value we can for public money.

A full report of the event has been sent to attendees and NHS Rotherham Board. Details of specific actions and issues have also been passed to commissioning staff for action.

Specific Issues Raised Above

There were a lot of comments made around waste relating to prescription medication. All these have been passed to our medications lead. From what you say, it may be that we need to remind people around ordering repeat prescriptions effectively, and discourage stockpiling of medication. This could even be from you comment, which is a really clear and dsimple message - if you don't need it, tick the box!

Many thanks for your comments.

Please note

On further advice from our pharmacy advisor, is that a cross or tick usually indicates that the medication is required, not the other way round.

It does seem that there is some misunderstanding around this.

We do need to make sure that ALL healthcare professionals, carers and patients understand how to order a repeat medication, and will look into how we get this message out.
