At 11am on Tuesday 23rd June I attended the Cardio Catheter Unit at Wigan Royal Albert Edward Infirmary for a Synchronised cardioverson Diversion and immediately was shown to a bed in a cubicle, where I had and ECG and bloods taken.

About 12.30pm when the results of the blood tests were known I had my blood pressure taken and temperature and a nurse explained what the procedure was regarding the cardioverson and the risks involved. I was asked to sign a consent form and I waited my turn to go to the theatre. As there was one other person before me.

At 2.30pm I walked to the theatre and I was met by the specialist nurse who was going to carry out the procedure and she explained what would occur.

I was given a sedative and the next thing I knew was I was back in the cubicle on the bed and told that the procedure was successful and was given a sandwich and a drink of tea.

At all times the staff were helpful and courteous and carried out their duties most efficiently. I was very impressed with the standard of care and the cleanliness of the unit. I was advised not to drive fore 2 days to refrain from alcohol and avoid any strenuous work. I was given medication for any burns to my body and allowed home after three hours of the procedure. My wife was contacted by the staff to collect me from the unit.

I have no reason for any complaint and would recommend this unit to anyone having cardioverson

Thank you so much for the very kind comments that you have made regarding the Cardio Catheter Unit and the procedure that you had undertaken. Clearly this was a very positive experience and it is good to hear that you would recommend the Cardo Catheter Unit to other patients.

I shall pass your comments to the Matron for the Cardio Catheter Unit who will share these with the staff on the Unit.
