"A visit to the Day Surgery Unit for an arthroscopy"

I recently spent the day in the Balfour Hospital Day Surgery Unit following an accident to my knee. I had to undergo an arthroscopy.

I was a little nervous but I need not have been. The nurses on the Unit were fantastic, they looked after me very well pre and post-op. The anaesthetist was excellent, along with the theatre staff and surgeon. I felt nervous when I went to theatre but they all put me at ease and the next I knew, I was in recovery being asked if I needed more pain relief and how I was doing.

On returning to the Unit, I was monitored and kept an eye on. The anaesthetist came again to see me (my op had been more complicated than expected and I had undergone a more complex and painful procedure than originally thought) to see if any more pain relief was required. I was made very comfortable.

Once I was feeling a bit more awake, I had a lovely cup of tea, a wee bit of toast and eventually got myself up, dressed and on the go.

The staff on the Unit and in Theatre were so attentive, kind and caring, they made an experience which could have been very unsettling, one which put me at ease and made me feel like I was in good hands.
