"A very caring staff who were unable to..."

About: Leeds General Infirmary

Anything else?

This morning my daughter was booked into this hospital for major surgery and was asked to be at the hospital at 7am. We arrived at 6.55am and had to wait until 7.05 am for the ward to be opened and were then taken to a waiting area. Over the next couple of hours our daughter was called into a room to give details, complete forms and have blood taken etc. We were told that we had to wait for bed availability to be confirmed before the operation could take place. A mark was put on my daughter's neck to show where the incision was to be made and name bands were put on her wrists. We waited until 1pm and then we were told that the operation had to be cancelled today due to there being no bed and it was now possible to reschedule for Tuesday June 28th. The staff were very caring and in no way do I blame them for what happened. My daughter has spent the last 3 weeks worrying about having to go into hospital today for this operation and now has to wait at least another 11 days. There is no guarantee that a bed will be available when she goes on June 28th. This situation is absolutely unacceptable, going into hospital is a traumatic experience without having to go through ths sort of thing. It was apparent this morning that this is a regular occurence and many people are affected by this.
