About: Russells Hall Hospital

What I liked

accessability for wheelcair users is almost impossible even with a helper,

as:- (1) car parking facilities are very limited and footpaths are often left blocked by parked cars, and the access to the Action Heart unit is often blocked by a picnic table.

(2) fire doors are extremly heavy and un-openable from in a wheelchair, and most need two extra people to hold open.

(3) corridors or often left scattered the equipment, waiting areas are far to small for the number of people expected to by kept sitting around.

What could be improved

clarification of the trusts policy for dealing with all issues disabled accessability, especaly out side Action Heart where there is on longer a "prop-off" area avalable, and the carparking facilities for Action Heart are on the pub carpark on the other side of the main road, which means trying to negotiate steep access roads.

Thank you for taking the time to comment.

We are sorry you feel the hospital is not accessible for wheelchair users. However, the hospital does comply with the Disability and Equality Act 2010.

We offer a number of disabled parking spaces for patients and visitors displaying a blue badge and we have a free 30 minute drop off available on our visitor car parks. We have red routes around the hospital to prevent vehicles from blocking access to pedestrians using the footpaths and are given a fixed penalty notice if found to be doing so.

Unfortunately the fire doors in the hospital are heavy in order to prevent the spread of a fire. However, there is always a member of staff that would be happy to help assist you.

Your comments about equipment blocking the corridors will be forwarded to our facilities and estates department to help ensure us improve our services to our patients.
