"General standard of nursing care not..."

About: Croydon University Hospital

What I liked

Medical staff (doctors) generally good. Were prepared to listen and discuss matters of concern.

What could be improved

Quality of food poor. Care and assistance needs to be provided to ensure patients eat food.

Commincation between nursing staff and patients is not good.

Management structure in wards not clear, my pre NHS experience was that new patients were met by the ward sister and the ward nursing structure explained. It was never clear to me who was the sister and what the function of other ward staff was.

Communication between ward doctors and radiography department very poor. Ward doctors requested two separtae CT scans, radiographers insisted only one required, ward doctors later confirmed two required, Only one taken, poor quality of care!

Long dlay in obtaining CT scan (more than 72 hours), again poor quality of care.

Medication provided at time of dischrage was wrong, discharge letter called for 10 days supply, only 4 days provided.

We are sorry to hear of the experience you had while here.

With regard to food, we continually survey patient satisfaction with the food and endeavour to improve the quality of the food and the service which is provided. The Trust uses three main nutrition initiative’s (protected meal times, nutritional screening and a Red Tray system) to help us with this and improve the nutrition of our patients.

We strive to see everyone requiring a CT scan as soon as possible; however demand and activity for these scans can vary during the day depending on other patient needs and requirements.

Regarding your other concerns it would help us to investigate this further if you could contact our PALS manager either by phone 0208 401 3939 or email.
