About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

What could be improved

My stepfather was an inpatient at sunderland Royal Hospital on ward D46 (urology). He was discharged today but had to await medications that, he was told, could only be supplied from the hospital pharmacy. The staff told him that the medication was ordered at 1.00 pm but did not arrive till 06.10 pm. Speaking as a staff nurse myself I find this absolutely terrible. What happened to communication from the staff to the patient did they not think to inform my stepfather, who by the way is over 80, that he could go home and someone could return for his medication at a later time instead of him sitting on the ward for all that time. It just goes to show what the staff working for that trust really think of their patients. Shame!
