What I liked

when my mother was admitted the second time she was admitted to the elderly care where the care of her was much better

What could be improved

putting her dinner within her reach. She was placed in her chair and the table was at the end of her bed with her dinner still on it when I came in at visiting time

Anything else?

My mother said that she had not had any food. I looked and her still covered bangers and mash was covered in cellophane. This was on the table at the very end of her bed and she was sitting in her chair at the top of the bed. When un covering it she said that smells nice. By then it was congealed. Nobody had even taken the covering off for her and moved it to within her reach. She was 83 years old and 2 weeks later died in the elderly care unit. At this time she was in the general ward, a large ward with a large number of mixed sex patients. She could have fed herself if somebody has used a little grey matter in placing her food in front of her, she did not need spoon feeding, just her cutlery and food passed to her. I have just had surgery in a different hospital and if my food had been left at the end of the bed I would have starved for I could not have reached it. The whole of that week she ate only half of a sandwich, she asked me for a chocolate bar and I bought her a pack of three and made sure she nibbled that. Elderely people have pride and if they think the food is given begrudgingly they will not touch it. I left Medway with a broken heart and no mum
