"Very impressed with excellent A & E..."

About: Kingston Hospital

What I liked

My 10-year old daughter was found to be severely ill with repiratory problems when waking on the morning of Sunday 22nd May, after three weeks of milder symptoms. We called 999 at around 7.30am, and an ambulance arrived within 5 minutes. The ambulance staff took some initial readings and decided to take us directly to Kingston A and E. On arrival, the ambulance staff had already called ahead with the symptoms (Ketoacidosis) so the A and E team were already informed and waiting for our arrival.

The care we received was outstanding, with excellent teamwork shown by all the doctors & nursing staff. This continued seamlessly an hour or so later when a new shift started at around 9am. At all times I was kept informed in a calm & polite manner of what had caused the symptoms, and what they were doing to alleviate my daughter's condition. We were later transferred to a ward after she was stabilised with fluids & insulin. We were visited a number of times by the Senior Consultant, who was also liaising with Intesive Care staff in other hospitals should it have been necessary to transfer her. Subsequently her condition gradually improved by Monday morning, and we were able to return home on Tuesday evening. Since then we have already received a home visit by the Diabetic specialist nurse who is continuing to advise & support us in immediate & long term care.

Needless to say, my family & I are deeply grateful to have received such excellent care, delivered in such an efficient & professional manner, without which my daughter would probably not be with us. Thanks to all at Kingston.

What could be improved

On this occasion, nothing.
