"All the staff went the extra mile to..."

About: Fairfield General Hospital

What I liked

I was admitted to ward 8 at Fairfield General Hospital on the 25/May/2011 for an arthroscopy of my right knee. I was somewhat nervous of the procedure and in particular the anesthetic. My fear was completely unfounded and I can't thank the staff up at Fairfield enough, the nurses on ward 8 both day and night were absolutely wonderful, nothing was too much trouble and always a smile on their faces, I can see now why nurses get called ' Angels '. I don't want to leave out the nursing auxilaries or ward cleaners either, altogether a great team effort, thanks ever so much.

Moving on to the operation itself, as I said previously, I was very nervous about having a general anesthetic, but both the anesthetist and anesthetic nurse both spoke to me beforehand and calmed my fears, the operation was done and again I had a wonderful recovery nurse by my side when I came round from the anesthetic

I was kept in overnight as my operation was a late afternoon one and the evening meal served to me was top class, well done the chefs

I would like to say thanks to the physios who spent time with me and also the nurses who saw me at the pre op assessment clinic yet another great team. Finally there is one team I really do have to thank and that is my consultant surgeon who along with his team of theatre staff carried out the procedure, many thanks to each and everyone of you.

As you can see I have not named any of the staff as I don't think it fair to pick out certain people above others and you may also think I've gone over the top in my thanks and praise of ward 8 and the orthopaedic dept at Fairfield, but I can only give you my opinion and based on that I would wholeheartedly recommend Fairfield Hospital to any and everyone and I would ask the hospital to pass on my thanks and comments to all the departments concerned.

What could be improved

I can truthfully say that I can't think of any improvements on the ward I was in nor in the theatre that I was taken to.

Anything else?

I would have loved to have been able to buy a ward 8 mug.
