"Long waiting time and no further help, whilst in continued pain"

About: Royal Derby Hospital / General surgery Royal Derby Hospital / Upper gastrointestinal sugery

(as the patient),

I class myself as a patient person, but I became ill will stomach pain 15 months ago and have had numerous test done at the derby royal hospital. These tests have mainly been for my gallbladder. I had a HIDA scan done, which showed my ejection fraction to be 36, with an extended latent period. However, my consultant states that it could be a ‘sphincter of Oddi’ dysfunction instead. I have had a botox injection for this complaint, but still continue to have the pain, which is worst after food. I have been in and out of hospital with this pain over the last 15 months, mainly being admitted for the amount of pain I’ve been in. I have found that on every occasion all the doctors want to do is control the pain and send me home. On no occasion has anyone offered an explanation for the pain or wanted to sort out any form of treatment. I’m simply told to wait till I see my consultant in outpatient appointments. When I questioned my condition recently, whilst yet again in hospital due to the pain, my questioning was dismissed. I find the doctors very aloof and not willing to listing to the patient. I feel that doctors should be approachable and understanding, after all they are not the ones in pain.
