"Poor communication"

About: North Manchester General Hospital

What could be improved

Communication

Anything else?

What let this hospital down is major lack of communication. Visited A&E back in March – was told to go to the X-ray but no one told me as to where exactly it is (I had to ask for directions), after tests student nurse appeared with Intravenous drip without a single word (I had to ask her if that’s for me), shortly afterwards porter came to take me somewhere (I wasn’t told this and neither was told where I am going). I found out it was STU just by reading sings on the way there! Still no word about my diagnosis...

From there was transferred to ward E3, porter showed me to my bed and that was it – nobody came to see me and I felt completely ignored by nurses. I also have to mention I wasn’t impressed when some staff was making a fun of one lady just because she couldn’t speak English.

I spent three days in hospital and on discharge I overheard consultant saying to his assistants that I’ll be on two different kinds of pills. Luckily I am a good listener as I was only given one by nurse so I had to question it and eventually was given the right medication!

On a positive, nurses on STU were very understanding and informative and so was the consultant who discharged me.
