"Dr spoke over me the whole time and..."

About: Westmorland General Hospital

What I liked

I've attended an Orthopedic clinic here since Feb 2010 on a regular basis. I've always had good consultations with the consultant even though at times it was difficult to hear bad news such as further surgery ect.

He has always treated me with great respect and support.

What could be improved

When I last visited the consultant had discussed with me some radical pioneering treatment only available on a trial and he wanted me to go away and think about it and we would discuss it again when I next came in. My GP was also informed of this via a letter sent to him by the consultant.

I did a lot of research into this treatment and did a lot of soul searching as to whether I could go through with this and of course stress!

On this particular visit I wasn't able to see the consultant as I normally would because he was not able to run the clinic that day and so I saw one of the orthopedic Dr.

I raised the previous conversation I had had with the consultant and was basically met with what I felt was a flippant comment that he didn't think this treatment under trial was now not available and that was that! So after all the soul searching and research if I had wanted to go down this route it clearly was no longer an option.

I was roughly examined to the point that I was crying in pain and felt that the Dr wasn't listening to what I was saying about the pain at all and spoke over me all the time,

So rounding up the appt all I got was physio! so going from pioneering surgery only available under trial I get physio.! Oh and the mention of removing my kneecap something that has never been discussed at any of the previous consultations!

Needless to say I left in tears and have been affected by it ever since. I feel at this moment that perhaps I shoud have myself refered to somewhere else and to somewhere that doesn't give me false information or false hope!

Anything else?

I feel that the above plight warrants a response and an explanation from this hospital as I've never left an appointment feeling the way that I do and despite the fact that I'm now waiting for my usual 3 monthly appointment I feel like cancelling it and going elsewhere.
