About: Lincoln County Hospital

What could be improved

My mother was taken in through the A &E route. Test were taken and the results never seemed to to inform the patient care. It took days after the results were back in (on top of the days waiting for the test to come back - I do understand that it takes several days for the cultures to grow) to get my mother the correct antibiotic for the bacteria that was cultured. The treatment was only commenced after the nurse upon request went to find the information on the computer and then the doctor was informed by me the next day. By that time, my 81 year old mother was very weak, having only just returned home after major surgery at Barlborough. A catalogue of slack and inconsistent note taking/reading/passing on resulted in poor care and a poor medical result for a lady who had been assertive and independent. Unacceptable.

Please accept my apologies for the late response to your account - at the Trust we have just recently developed a process for reviewing and responding to postings and I am working my way through older postings as well as recent one. It feels a little ironic that this response is so late considering you were also kept waiting for your mothers results and subsequent care decisions......

It would be difficult for me to respond with any detail after such a time lapse but please do accept my sincere apologies. As a nurse (and within care of older people) I appreciate the worry and the impact for older people when there are delays to care.

There have been significiant developments within all the A&E departments across United Lincolnshire over the past 12 months, including senior review of cases and integrated working with our GP's and primary care - I would imagine that had your mother attended more recently then this follow up of results would have happened much more quickly due to our revised systems. I appreciate that this is too late for your original experience but please be assured that even after such a period of time patient feedback is still very valuable to us.

Thank you again.
