"Waiting too long to see the doctor"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Accident and emergency Tameside General Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

On Tuesday morning at approx 4am, I took my daughter to hospital. She had been complaining of tummy ache from the previous Sat, but eventually the pain was so bad that I took her to A&E. we were told to go home and keep giving Calpol. Later that evening my daughter was in agony so we went straight back to A&E and was taken through straight away. We waited at least 3 and a half hours before the doctor finally came to see her. We had been given medication by the nurses but nothing was easing the pain. She then started to vomit and was having diarrhoea. We stay overnight and had had X-rays of her tummy so I did feel better. I did feel we were waiting too long to see the doctor as by the time she did come my daughter had been given morphine and was asleep.

Thank you for posting these comments. I am sorry that your daughter has been ill and that you were unhappy with the wait for a doctor in A&E. It is difficult to comment on individual cases without details, but I will certainly pass these comments to Dr Contractor, lead consultant for A&E for discussion with the staff. I hope yuo daughter is much better now

With best wishes

Would you like to help the hospital to improve its services further? We are currently looking for patients and carers to become involved in a development called “Patient Stories”. We want to know more about our services from the point of view of those who received them – what was good, bad, what could be improved, what should be changed. Want to know more about what’s involved?

Please contact Philip Dylak, Director of Nursing at philip.dylak@tgh.nhs.uk
