What I liked

Being a midwife myself I would like to sing the praises of the North Middlesex Maternity Services.

I received exceptional care from all who were directly and indirectly involved with my pregnancy and birth. From the consultant obstetrician who oversaw my care, the wonderful diabetic midwife and especially the midwife who was with me throughout my entire labour and delivery. All the staff from the ward cleaner to the senior midwives and doctors that I met were fantastic and I thank them all. The hospital was very clean, compared to some of the hospitals I have worked in it was one of the cleanest. There was a great sense of teamwork between the staff and this I could tell was having a positive effect on the women using the service.

The midwife that looked after me in labour stayed with me the entire time and was exceptionally caring and professional. I was very impressed at the speed that the anaesthetist was contacted and arrived after I eventually submitted to the pain of childbirth. I understand that the North Middlesex has the lowest caesarean rate in London and a very low demand for an epidural in labour; this was possibly why I could have my epidural almost immediately.

I was treated with both dignity and respect throughout my stay and I was never left alone when I felt that somebody should have been with me. My partner and I were always involved in the planning of my care and of our newborn son.

I cannot recommend the North Middlesex hospital maternity service more highly, a very safe and friendly local hospital dealing with some very complex and difficult pregnancies, you are in extremely safe hands. Although the building is old and a little tired (hey aren't most hospitals) it is well equiped and clean. I cant wait to see the brand new state of the art maternity department when it is finished!
