"wish we never had to come here."

About: Birmingham Children's Hospital

What I liked

consultants are very knowledgeable and you know your child is in capable hands

What could be improved

call centre staff and staff on recption at the heart unit are very rude with bad attitudes.

waiting times at the heart outpatients unit need to improve-when you are given a time it should mean you are seen at that time and not some hour and a half later, also when the letter states you will be seeing your childs consultant you expect to see that consultant and not his registrar. We have been comming here for 5 years and only seen our sons consultant a handful of times, the rest of the time it is different people so they don't know about you and vice versa.

Anything else?

wish we could leave this hospital but unfortunatly we have two sons with heart defects that aren't going to improve anytime soon so we are stuck here for the forseeable.

Response from Birmingham Children's Hospital

I am pleased you felt your child was in capable hands but I am very sorry that the rest of your experience was not to our usual high standard. We recognise that there have been some difficulties in the Heart Out Patient Department and have been reorganising the clinics as there were unacceptably long waits in the department and that we had not made it clear about who would see your child. We would be very happy to discuss this with you in more detail and if you could contact us here at Birmingham Children's Hospital on the contact number below we could address your issues personally.
