About: Royal Preston Hospital

What I liked

The staff on Mayfield discharge lougue were lovely and kept me updated about when my bed would be available on ward 11. They also regularly asked me if i wanted a drink and something to eat as it was tea time when i was still there waiting for my bed.

What could be improved

I left Mayfield discharge lounge around 6pm having been there sine 2pm waiting for my bed on ward 11 i was due to have surgery the next day. I arrived on the ward and was basically left in a room at the bottom of the ward for over 2 and a half hours waiting for my bed. I finally got a bed around 8.45pm which is ridiculous all in all i had been waiting nearly 7 hours to be allocated a bed!! Why the hospital tells you to come in for 2pm knowing full well a bad isnt available is beyond me they could contact you before hand to explain a bed isnt yet available and to come in later on instead of being made to wait in the hospital all that time. Around 9.45am the next day i was informed by a doctor that my surgery had been cancelled i can tell i was not happy at all! i waited all morning until 1pm to be discharged and was then told by the ward sister that i could go home and my discharge papers would be sent through the post yet again waiting for hours then to be told i could go home why didnt they tell me this once the doctor had been to see me in the morning! In the 24 hours in was in hospital i spent most of it waiting for one reason or another. The communication between staff and patients most definitely needs to be improved and so does the admissions policy.

Anything else?

My experience at Preston hospital was not a nice one and have opted to have my surgery at a different hospital i will not be returning there
