"The staff should be aware of paitents..."

About: James Paget University Hospital

What I liked

The food at the hospital was good.

What could be improved

Staffs awareness of paitents conditions.

Anything else?

I went a visited James Paget Universetey Hospital in march 2011 to see a paitent family member who was there.

As i was at the hospital there was a old lady next to my realative.

A staff lady was just bringing the trolly round asking if people wanted cups of tea.

She spoke to the old lady.

The staff lady said; " Do You Want A Cup Of Tea?" However she also said; "Would You Like Sugar In It?".

The old lady replied and said; "I Cannot Have Sugar In My Tea As I Have Diabetes!"

The staff lady replied said; "I Did Not Know You Have Diabetes As There Is No Medical Card Above Your Bed To Say You Have Diabetes".

I think that this was poor that staff did not know that she has got diabetes. It was just a good job that the old lady could speak up and tell them her conditition.

Thank you for your comment. There would be a sign above the bed if the patient wasn't able to communicate to the domestic staff themselves. Some patients do not like to be labelled by signs but we do use them where appropriate to promote patient safety.
