"Excellent consultant & surgical team ......"

About: Frenchay Hospital

What I liked

I am not from the Bristol catchment area and traveled a long way for re-constructive surgery. Being a long way from friends and family can be quite difficult but all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

My consultants were absolutely fantastic, and I cannot thank them enough for the care and treatment they provided me with. They kept me fully informed with what was happening to me and how they were going to help, and were extremely approachable and put me at ease. Following surgery they maintained regular contact with me and kept me informed of how the operation and my treatment went and answered any anxieties I had. The surgical team are a very dedicated and hard working unit.

What could be improved

I am from an area were hospitals are very modern compared to Frenchay, and as I was walking through the grounds it was a slight culture shock, however that shouldn't detract away from the level of care offered inside the hospital and the cutting edge surgical procedures that are offered because that level expertise is not offered in any other part of the UK. I understand a new hospital is being built - a win win situation for future patients.

Nurses on the wards were also excellent, but slightly overworked - there never seemed to be hands to cope with a busy surgical ward. That was no reflection on the staff - more of a sign of the times, and no different to any other hospital across the UK.

Just to be picky and realistic (ahem), nicer food and chilled water ... pigs may fly!

Anything else?

Never judge a book by its cover ....
