What I liked
I delivered my daughter in October and the care I was given was brilliant - a very relaxed and professional atmosphere (though the midwife was from an agency, so I can't comment on the permanent midwives) - the registrar who delivered by baby by forceps was very professional and calm. I visited the maternity ward on a few ocassions due to bleeding and abdominal pains and each time I was seen to very quickly. The only upsetting thing I found is that when I had bleeding at 13 weeks, I was sent to A&E, had to wait and wasn't offered a scan as it was a bank holiday - I had to wait 3 days for my planned 13 week scan to make sure all was ok - that was a bit stressful!
Wouldn't recommend the Katherine Ward if you want some peace and quiet for you and your baby - midwives overstrechted, quite bossy (my baby suffered from vomitting from her very first feed and midwife got a bit stressed by me asking for clean sheets every few hours - in the end I just asked her to show me where they were and I'd do it myself even though I was in a lot of pain from forceps, extensive bruising and stitches).
What could be improved
more midwives for post natal care - a check up of my stitches and bruising would have been helpful - I didn't get checked over until 4 days post delivery my community midwife who was quite shocked at the amount of bruising I suffered.
"could be a lot, lot worse, healthy baby..."
