What could be improved

Every time my father comes into hospital the staff treat him and his carer (my mother) like they know nothing about managing his diabetes when in fact they are experts. Every time then he is given the wrong dosage of insulin for several days, running extremely high blood sugars and everyone is so surprised!

Why can't the nhs get this one small thing right? The person who is ill has absolutely every right to have a say in how they are treated. My father is meticulous in recording how much medication he takes and what his sugar level is. My mother carries that to hospital with her every time and no one wants to look at it. Surprisingly then he has a problem with his sugars and the tight resources available in terms of trained staff need to be used to sort out the problem the nhs has caused!

As a patient who has disease due to diabetes all you are doing by mishandling my father is shortening his life and making his quality of life lower than it should be. I would be ashamed if I did my job like that and yet it’s simple solution! Unbelievable

as a tax payer I object to your wasting valuable competent resources in this way, patients are people not numbers, treat them like it -talk to them. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone; thank the lord I live in the midlands!

Anything else?

I have already raised this and several other issues with the previous head of diabetic clinic. This needs a proper investigation and correcting for all patients- in fact it should be a golden rule that is strictly enforced to get as much info from the patient and their family as possible before deciding on a course of treatment. The best evidence is the record book all us diabetics keep – ask for it and use it! Simples
