"Very, very good service!"

About: Southend Hospital

What I liked

After reaching 50 years of age last May, I received an appointment with the mobile mammogram unit in October. I soon received a follow up appointment for further investigation and was found to have breast cancer, at an early stage.

I wanted to say that since my first appointment, I have been so impressed and encouraged by the speed, knowledge, efficiency, kindness and support from all departments involved.

The breast care nurses have been wonderful. My consultant surgeon, was so kind and supportive, as well as obviously knowledgable and skillful. Both were very patient, which helped me at times of panic. I was well cared for by the very hard working nurses and doctors in the George Foster Taylor ward when I had my operation. Finally the Oncology and Radiotherapy teams were so helpful and able to put me at my ease at what has been a difficult time.

I cannot stress enough how the pleasant and reassuring attitude of everyone involved in my treatment made all the difference!

What could be improved

Length of time waiting for a blood test during my pre-assessment. However, I would usually book an appointment at a clinic but did not have time, as only shortly before my operation.

Anything else?

Well done and thank you!
