"Excellent care, promoting dignity,..."

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital

What I liked

I attended the gynaecology department for an early scan. At this scan, I sadly found out that I had had a delayed miscarriage. The nursing staff and doctors were kind, professional and supportive. I had to return for medical management of the miscarriage, which in many ways could have felt like a very undignified and embarrassing procedure. Due to the excellent professional standards set by the nurses and health care assistants, I experienced minimal embarrassment and felt they managed everything brilliantly. I was given my own room for the procedure which was nice (and excellent views!) and although the procedure was painful, the nurses made sure to provide me with pain relief and reassurance. The person who brought me dinner was also lovely, with a great sense of humour, which really cheered my husband and I up.

I feel that in an age where NHS staff get a lot of criticism, and indeed nurses are often experiencing redundancies and cuts, that credit should be given to the high professional standards of these nurses and the other staff. They should not be made redundant, on the contrary they should all be given a pay rise!! Their service is nurse led, and I have to say, I wish other hospital wards were also nurse-led because they seem to do a better job of leading than the doctors do!!

Thank you, and I hope next time I see you, it will be with happy news of a new baby on the way. But if I have another miscarriage, I know I will be in excellent hands and will receive the best care and support possible.

What could be improved

Nothing.

Anything else?

I would like this comment to be passed on to the commissioner and also to the nurses on the ward, so they know how appreciated they are!
