"Second cataract operation."

About: Southend Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

I had a good experience with my first cataract operation,so went for the second one feeling confident. However, the lady surgeon was much rougher than the male surgeon I had previously, and was discussing cricket with other members of staff whilst operating on my eye.I found it much more painful than my other operation, despite having extra anaesthetic drops.I was shaking when I left the theatre, and felt really traumatised. On discussing this with the other two ladies who had just had their operations,I discovered that we all felt the same, and none of us would want to repeat the experience.I felt really "wobbly" for five days afterwards, whereas I recovered pretty quickly from the first operation. However,I have nothing but praise for all the nursing staff at the eye unit. They were cheerful, kind, and very helpful to us all.
