"I was very well looked after at Rotherham District General Hospital "

I was admitted through casualty onto an orthopaedic ward at Rotherham district general hospital after sustaining a knee and ankle injury through playing netball. I was attended initially be a paramedic on the netball court as I could not move my leg. He helped me control my pain and then put my leg in a splint. He was very professional and supportive and rang for an ambulance to take me to casualty. The ambulance arrived and the 2 female paramedics made me as comfortable as possible before driving me to the A&E department. On arrival to the A&E department the paramedics ensured I was safe and comfortable in the department and passed me onto the A&E staff. Unfortunately I had to wait three hours before I was seen but was given pain relief and gas&air but my leg unbeknown to me was broken so during my wait it was uncomfortable.

Eventually I had an X-Ray where the radiographer told me I had broken my ankle. I then had to wait for my ankle to be put in plaster but because I was in so much pain with my knee they put a full leg plaster on which relieved the pain. I was admitted to an orthopaedic ward as my ankle was displaced which meant I had to go to theatre for a pin and plate.

During my stay at Rotherham district general hospital all the staff which included the surgeons, ODA’s, anaesthetist, recovery staff, ward nursing staff and cleaners, physiotherapists and outpatients department staff were all very kind and supportive of my injury. I was informed at all times of what care I was to be given and at no time during my stay did I feel vulnerable or neglected. I was on the ward for 5 days and during my stay I felt I was very well looked after and felt positive about the National Health Service.
