"Under my smile I am crying for help"

About: Hollins Park

(as the patient),

im currently being visited be the crisis team twice a week. I think they are a good idea just to make sure im ok! but when they come to my house i have to be honest i will tell them how my moods have been but when they are there i put on an act! Can they not see this? people are coming to my house and i suppose it feels like in a way judging they probably are not but thats the way it feels. I feel its really intimadating with 2 people and they are not always the same people! Please dont get me wrong they are lovley people and they are caring but maybe they need to try and look through the act as then they will see the smile isnt a smile! Under neath the smile is a person crying out for help! And slowly giving up! I feel that they always leave with a smile on their faces because they can not see under the act. I know i have to open up and try and talk but when i have i see confused looks on their faces!!!!

I am sorry to learn that you have found contact with Warrington Crisis Team difficult. I would like to thank you for taking the time to bring this to our attention and please be assured that we value your comments. In relation to being visited at home by two members of staff; the reason for this is that it is important that Service Users and Staff are safe at all times. Assessment and risk management is ongoing and it is frequently necessary for two members of staff to visit someone when they are not previously known to them or there is a significant risk.

You have described that the members of staff cannot see under the act when you put on a smile. However, because you are being visited twice a week, this would suggest that they do recognise your distress and they are closely monitoring your mood and mental health. Can I urge you to admit how you are feeling and if you need further support; please discuss this with the members of staff. It is not always possible to get an accurate assessment if you are masking some of the symptoms that you are experiencing.

I have passed on your comments to the Manager of the Crisis Team and she will share them with the team.

If you would like to discuss your concerns further, I can be contacted on 01925 664455. You can also contact the Trust PALS Co-ordinator Dennis Dewar on 01925 664042
