Cervical cancer excision. Bleeding continued for three months after operation. Local GP prescribed antibiotics which led to a thrush infection. On returning to the GP further courses of antibiotics were suggested. At no point did the GP suggest referral to a gynecologist or other specialist. Patient was in pain and experiencing contractions for most of this time. Bleeding continued to be excessive for a further three months. Finally at the 6 month check up with the colposcopist patient was told that the antibiotics were the likely cause of the infection and slow healing. I think this could have been avoided if the patient had received better advice immediately following the procedure.
"Needed better advice following procedure"
