What I liked

I attended the gum clinic today and to be honest I was shocked.

first I booked an appointment, well that took 4 days just for the phone to be answered then I was given an appointment for 3 days later, it's a good job I wasn't an emergency!

My appointment was over an hour late but no comment or apology by anyone.

the doctor took me in and did my checkup, well i assume it was a doctor as they never introduced them self. I did a urine sample for chlamydia but all i could hear was the nurses in the next room talking about me & laughing.

I was then moved to a health advicor who again didn't introduce herself and lectured me on condoms and hiv. At no time was I asked if I had any problems if they had they may have discovered I had HIV!

I will not be going back

What could be improved

Train the staff

We’re sorry that experience at the GUM clinic in February 2011 was not up to the standard that you, or we, would expect. We would normally expect our phones to be answered promptly so we apologise if this was not the case. If the lines are engaged there is normally an option to leave a message for someone to call you back. We have had a temporary shortage of staff in reception recently but I’m pleased to say this matter is being resolved

If you do feel able to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (01276 526530 palsusers@fph-tr.nhs.uk) directly to discuss this matter in more detail we may be able to look into it further to address some of the other issues you raise.
