What I liked
Staff were friendly enough and the 3 different doctors we saw were bvery knowledgable
What could be improved
Cleanliness and general look of the ward, the treatment room was delapidated with paint literally falling off the walls, it was only around three hours after being in the hospital that my 10 month old son was offered a room with a crib for him to sleep and this was only due to the fact that he was sick all over the treatment room. The room we were put in was literally disgusting, there were silverfish crawling all over the bathroom floor, there was actually baby poo on the changing mat and upon mentioning this to the nurse the nurse actually recommended that we change my son in the crib where he was supposed to be sleeping!!! Not a mention of "oh we will come and clean that up for you, sorry about that".
Anything else?
If this is what has become an exceptable level of care at Darlington hospital I am so glad that my wife and I made the decision to have our baby at Durham even though it took us around 15 minutes longer to get there.
This is not the first time we have had trips to Darlington Hospital out last encounter before we switched to Durham was an internal scan on my wife before she was pregnant, the toilet where she could go and clean up was apparently out of order so she had to walk across to another ward, where upon entering was greeted with several samples of urine and excrement laid around one side of the toilet on the floor in those little carboard bed pans!
There are several words to describe Darlington Hospital, disgusting, delapidated, hell hole, depressing, filthy but to put it perhaps more bluntly and needs condeming, I sincerely hope that I never have to deal with this hospital again as it is simply a disgrace! Perhaps you may want to re-think the "scrubs up well posters" as to me they are an absolute joke I have never ever seen such disgusting conditions in a hospital and it seems apparent that they are the norm.
PS my wife, myself and my 10 month old son have all returned home from hospital with colds so we have actually come home from hospital sicker than when we went in, sums it up really! I am just glad that it was only a cold as judging by the general filth of the place I was afraid my son was going to catch something serious to go with his croup and now cold.DepressionFalls trips and slipsCleanlinessPatient careToiletsCroupOpening hoursTemperatureDoctorsBathroom
