"Generally very good - I'd go back!"

About: Worcestershire Royal Hospital

What I liked

My son and I received excellent care when we were rushed in by ambulance for a Ventouse delivery, after we were unable to complete the birth at home as planned (my son had his cord around his neck so I couldn't get him out on my own), All the staff who looked after us in the delivery suite and post natal ward were great - knowledgeable, professional and with a care for patients' dignity at what is inherently a very undignified time!

What could be improved

There was a lot of emphasis on getting breastfeeding going, which is good of course, but the protocols that dictate staff must observe feeding at certain time intervals meant that during our night on the post natal ward, we were woken pretty much every hour by a midwife wanting me to feed my son - when both he and I were a lot more interested in sleeping and recovering from the birth! I question whether this approach is actually in the best interests of mothers and babies.

The very first person we saw on the morning after the birth was no medical professional, but instead a rep from a company wanting to charge us extortionate amounts to take photos of our son. FFS. What place have these people got in a hospital? Giving the hard sell to women who are exhausted and emotional from having just given birth? Quite disgraceful.ApproachableDignityPatient careAmbulanceBabiesMidwife
