What I liked
The ward was reasonably clean.
What could be improved
I had a complicated and traumatic birth experience and, unfortunately, received very little support from the staff on maternity ward. They were rude, insensitive and downright nasty. I wish I made a formal complaint there and then, but at the time my main concern was the health of my newborn. The way I was treated was completely unprofessional and disgraceful. I cannot believe that midwives are capable of badmouthing a patient and indulging in in-depth discussions about her post pregnancy body and how unattractive she is in full view of that said patient. Absolutely shocking! I was treated with utter disrespect and at no point did any of the people involved remember that they were representing one of the most caring professions on Earth.
Anything else?
I personally would not recommend giving birth at Harrogate hospital, despite the fact that many have had a good experience there. The birth of a child should be a happy event not marred by sheer nastiness coming from the very people who are supposed to help and support you no matter what. Should we decide to have another child, we'll definitely pay for a private clinic. I have lost all faith in the NHS.ComplaintsCleanlinessInsensitivePrivacyRudeMaternitySupport staff
