"Widening Horizon was a turning point for me"

About: Phoenix Futures / Barnsley drug and alcohol services

(as the patient),

At the end of December, I started on some very worth while courses with widening horizon. There is a wide range of opportunities that can enable me to sort out my life. After years of hard drinking and drug taking, my life was totally upside down.

So now, I have come to the turning point where I have said enough is enough. I am lucky to be alive. I was severely stabbed through the mouth, where I was hospitalized in London from 1985-86. I was in 15 days intensive care after 6units of blood was pumped back into my system.

Since then, I have had a heart attack in 2005/2006. I am on treatment for Angina and Diabetics. I also have a spinal disease, Liver damage and asthma. I am now 57years and as I have said, Lucky to be alive

This is just what has gone off in my life down the years.......

Now to write about widening horizons..

I am enjoying the program, all the staff here are brilliant and they treat all members with kindness and respect.

We have wide range of tasks to take part in group sessions, arts and crafts, conservation outside, where we are taken to various places in Yorkshire. we also have bank of computers to work with and leisure activities like Wii etc.

I am delighted to have this opportunity to get my life back in order. it gives me the opportunity to find some kind of employment even though I have health problems. I am not sitting in my flat feeling sorry for my self any more, I am making new friends and sticking well with the winners.

Today i keep focus on what I want to do in life, I can feel the changes taking place in my life and it feels good to be alive and well. Everyday is a new challenge for me and I welcome it to set new goals that can benefit my life. I can never be thankful enough for the treatment by all staff at widening Horizon.

Thank you.
