What I liked
When I went to the A.E. at Dewsbury distict hospital, on the 25 March 2009. with serious breathing problems and shortness of breath, I was seen within the hour, and recived the very best of treatment. The doctors and nurses were very good, they soon got me sorted out, I was put on oxygen and a nebuliser I had a chest xray. The consultant told me that they will be keeping in for a while. The staff were very careing and understanding, I nad hands on care all of the time I was in A.E. When I was put on oxygen to help my breathing, was a life saver to me. After they got me stable with my breathing, I was taken to the (MAU) Acute assessment unit, for further examination and assessment over night. I was then taken to the respirtory ward, I was on the ward for 2 weeks. I had exelant treatment, I was on oxygen 24/7, and nebuliser, and seroirds. I was treated with respect and dignity all of the time I was in hospital. The cosultants diagnosed me with empysema, C.O.P.D. I cant thank them all enough for there exelent care. This experience to me was a wake up call of how ill I was, through smoking. It is very distressing when you are fighting for breath. I have been getting follow up and assessment care at the pulmonary outpatients clinic, and I have been on a pulmonary rehabilitation programme. I am much better now. My G.P. is taking care of me now. Thank you all in the respiratory unit at the Dewsbury disrict hospital.COPDDignityPatient careX-rayConsultantsDoctorsNursing staffFollow upPulmonary rehabilitationOutpatients
