"A horrendous and distressing experience"

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital

What I liked

The chaplaincy services were excellent and helpful. Such a shame that we had to ask for them and they weren't automatically offered!

What could be improved

Everything!

We attended for a routine scan. They could not find a heart beat and it turned out our baby had died in utero. This was an enourmous shock and totally unexpected. A brief chat with a doctor and we were sent home - where were the conselling services, the support or the help to find oout what happens next?

Following this the maternity unit did not inform our GP, we had to do this ourselves.

We were not offered follow up which the NICE guidelines suggest is required.

We were not offered any information about why we had miscarried our baby.

And the ultimate insult - being sent an appointment for another scan and to see the Doctor at 24 weeks! The department couldn't even communicate within themselves!

Anything else?

Horrific and hurtful treatment. If we need maternity services I will be going out of county (patient choice) as I do not trust this unit at all!AppointmentsFollow upCommunicationServiceMaternityDoctors
