"I feel that money is determining my care, instead of need"

About: Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Working age mental health care (community)

(as the patient),

I have severe mental health issues. My consultant and another more senior consultant have assessed me as requiring specialist residential care and I've been told that my Trust (Sussex Partnerships NHS Foundation Trust) cannot afford it.

I have needed this care for over 18 months and instead of my local CMHT doing all they can, my care package is reducing.

At this rate I am going to have to live back home with my parents and accept I will never work again or function normally.

I am disgusted that money seems to have determined my treatment and not need (as assessed by 2 consultant psychiatrists, a consultant psychotherapist and my care co-ordinator).

Thank you for posting this comment. I am sorry that you have had a distressing experience and I would very much like for us to have the opportunity to look into this further with you.

If you would like to contact our Patient Advice and Liasion service directly they would be able to help you find out more about why this decision was made and if you have the opportunity to challenge it.

The number to phone for PALS is 01273 716588. Ask for Dawn Gluck.
