What I liked
My father got treated here for 3 months in ICU, ward 16 and ward 34. The first two wards here were exceptional. The consultants and their teams were faultless, my dad wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for them. All the nursing in these two wards were also absolutley fantastic. I don't know how I coped at times but two of the nurses in ICU were a complete rock of support, wonderful!! The standard of care under the gastro specialists were fantastic and then at Castle Hill (hull) were a*!!
What could be improved
Respiratory ward was terrible. Some nurses were kind but on the whole it was really bad. My poor dad was left with no communication for days, he had sores that weren't being treated and only got to speak to the sister after 5 days of having no information given. He is old school and would never complain but by this time he was getting annoyed!! There seems to be no liaison between the doctors, nurses and patients. Also the outpatient care has not been fantastic, he ended up gettiing another infection because of this and hospitilised further i truly believe this could have been prevented. He slipped through the net in outpatient, his chest drain was in for 5 months and definately should have been about 3. I wish i would have pushed for better care but you go by what the doctor thinks best i suppose.
Anything else?
I would recommend areas of this hospital but if you have the choice for a respiratory ward between york and hull, choose hull!GastroenteritisCommunicationPatient careConsultantsNursing staffFalls trips and slipsInfectionsOutpatientsDoctors
