My Dad is 70 years old and was recently diognosed with aggressive bladder cancer. This has blown his whole world apart. He has been very ill and was recently taken by blue light to the Royal hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield suffering excruciating pain in his bladder and unable to urinate. Having been on the ward for less than one day my Pa was wanting to come home as he felt that he was not being cared for properly . This was flagged up with the sister on duty. By the second day things had not improved, by then he was considering jumping from the roof of the hospital .He feels the lack of basic care isnt being carried out. E.G He buzzed the nurses 8 times in order to get some one to respond to him.
Also finding blood on the floor and walls of the toilet, when he flagged this up with a member of staff he was told it wasnt anything to do with them when he pointed out that it was then agreed. Hello ... Then he was kept awake untill the very early hrs of the morning by several family member who were visiting there relitive.Until around 2am in the morning. What? My view was that my dad had the same poor treatment less than 2mths ago when he went into surgery for a bladder scrap. Back on the ward to standard of care again had serious misgivings. Left in his own feaces for hrs, I am so very very upset and angry that not only does my dad have an aggressive cancer, he also feels really ill and one would exspect that he is cared for in a reasonable manner whilst being ill.Its supposed to be a place they say you can "expect Care, treatment and support that meets your needs" They also say you can "exspect to be safe You will be cared for in a clean enviroment where you are protected from infection". This falls a long way short of this, a long way short. My view is that no patient should feel that they want to take their life due to the way they are cared for. I feel that its just tragic, really tragic.
