What I liked
I have havebeen trated for many years by the Craniofacial Unit which was originally in the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford until it moved to the new Children's Hsopital in the John Radcliffe Hospital.
The facilities are ex cellent, especially Melanie's Ward where a lot of thought has gone into providing a bright and cheerful, teenager friendly environment, with excellent resources. I am 16 and have stayed there several times. The staff from consultants to nurses, play specialists to admin staff and cleaners have a wonderful positive attitude with patients and their relatives. It is very different from the normal hospital wards, and I didn't feel I was actually in a hospital as there was so much to do to occupy my time. The food was excellentand it was really good that you could order food from a menu at any time of the day rather than being restricted to meal time. if you are not there at mealtimes there was always something healthy to eat.
My parents stayed in the Ronald MacDonald relatives accommodation above the wards, which relieved a lot of the stress of being able to be close to me rathert han travel from homeor a local B & B The staff and facilities there are excellent and showed a genuine interest and empathy for parents and the ptrogress of patients.
I would highly recommend this hospital. I have stayyed in two hospitals close to where we live and the Chidren's Hospital is in a diffrent league. I was not at all anxious when told i would have to be admitted for operations because I knew it would be a good experience.
