"Lucky to get out alive"

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital

What I liked

Going home

What could be improved

Everything

Anything else?

Before my operation I had to get changed into a robe in an interview room.

After the operation it took me ages to convince a nurse that the morphine machine was not working.

A nurse told me off for using to much morphine. found out later it was because she could not be bothered to change it. Alarms went off for over 20 mins before they would refill the morphine.

Consultant told me I needed a scan following my operation, nurse said they didn`t know anything about it.

Nurses did not know about my pre existing health problems and medication required. Had to explain every night that I needed my medication that they had locked away.

Night nurses are aggressive and uncaring. The first thing they do is hang up the nurse call. I found this difficult to understand, there was a terminally ill lady next to me and a women that had collapsed and hit her head during the day in a bed opposite.

They then make a point of waking you up at 5.30 in the morning.

A nurse pulled out the canular in my hand, very painfull. When another nurse asked where it was she said it fell out. Obviously it should not have been taken out.

Hardly any of the nurses clean their hands before they touch you. not suprised there is a high infection rate.

I told my husband how bad it was, he was going to complain. I told him not to incase the nurses took it out on me.

If you can use an alternative hospital then I would do everything you can not to go to Stoke Mandeville.AggressiveApatheticConsultantsNursing staffInfectionsCleanliness
